Originally the Title of the Post was Going to Be a Line from a Song That Referenced Systems Bumping, but I Decided to do This Instead

Is it a bizarre kind of backwards racism or shame or embarrassment that compels me to turn down the volume on my stereo when I'm listening rap and get into a more populated area.

Part 2: Conundrum

Dare I utter the "n" word when I'm alone and "rapping" along?

answer to part 1: embarrassment

answer to part 2: I don't know. Do you so dare?

These are both signs you don't want to be seen as the archetypal white-guy-who-listens-to-hip-hop, the one who says to a black co-worker that he "gets it," the one who's "down." It's an image worth avoiding.
